Pinterest agreed to a requirement to appoint a local representative in Turkey as part of a new social media law that took effect in October 2020, according to a top Turkish official.

Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan announced on Twitter that Pinterest has agreed to appoint a local representative in Turkey.

As part of Turkey's new social media law, which came into force in October 2020, the US-based social media platform LinkedIn accepted a requirement to appoint a local representative in the country, a senior official announced on Jan. 16. 

French video-sharing technology platform Dailymotion appointed a representative in Turkey, a senior Turkish official said on Jan 9.

"One of the foreign-sourced social network provider Dailymotion with more than 1 million daily access from Turkey has appointed a representative in Turkey," Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan wrote on Twitter.

Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has said that it analyzed various messages of 102,000 suspects accused of being members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) and determined that they were sent through ByLock, the group's encrypted messaging application, Sabah daily reported on June 26.

Turkey has recovered from the recent worldwide cyberattack, which affected 72 countries, and was barely affected by it, the Turkish Communication Authority said on May 16, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported. 

It is impossible to grant access to the world's largest encyclopedia, Wikipedia, unless Turkey's judicial decisions are implemented, the head of the country's telecommunications watchdog has said.

Turkey?s three existing mobile operators, Turkcell, Vodafone and Avea, have won the rights to the country?s advanced 4G network due to be established for a sum of more than 1.14 billion euros, in the Aug. 26 tender held by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority.

Another bidder, Netgsm, declined to make an offer.

Ömer Fatih Sayan was appointed the head of the Information and Communications Technologies Authority (BTK) on Aug. 25, ahead of a key telecommunications tender on Aug. 26.

Turkey did not cancel a planned 4G tender, but will make a 4.5G tender on Aug. 26, a high-level official from the Information and Communications Technologies Authority (BTK) has told Anadolu Agency.
