Iraq seeks to enhance bilateral relations in all fields with Turkey, the country's Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on May 9.

The newly elected prime minister met with Fatih Yıldız, Turkey's ambassador to Baghdad, the Iraqi Prime Minister's office said in a statement.

Iraq's Foreign Ministry on April 16 summoned the Turkish ambassador over Ankara's counter-terror operations against the YPG/PKK in northern Iraq.

Iraqi authorities registered their protest over the operation, Fatih Yıldız told Anadolu Agency after the meeting in the capital Baghdad.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abd Al-Mahdi on Sept. 11 met Turkey's Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yıldiz to discuss bilateral relations, according to an Iraqi official statement.       

Turkey supports improved ties between Baghdad and Arbil, Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yıldız said on April 5, adding that outstanding differences should be resolved in accordance with Iraq's constitution.

Iraq's foreign ministry has summoned the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad over an interview in which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described an Iraqi paramilitary organization as "terrorist," officials said on April 20.

Turkey wants to see concrete steps from the central Iraqi government against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) presence in the Sinjar district, west of Mosul, the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad has said.      

Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Faruk Kaymakçı has been assigned as Turkey's permanent representative to the EU, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette on Oct. 14.
