Cultural Road Festival moves to Çanakkale
The ninth stop of the Turkish Cultural Road Festival, organized in 16 cities this year by the Culture and Tourism Ministry to contribute to Türkiye's brand value, will be the northwestern province of Çanakkale.
Çanakkale will host a variety of events such as concerts, exhibitions, workshops, talks and gastronomy experiences for nine days during the festival from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8.

Four lawmakers become first female deputies of 3 provinces
Four female lawmakers have been elected as the first female deputies of three provinces that had never been represented by a woman before, marking another step in female representation in the country's legislative body.
In the 28th term of the 600-member parliament elected in the May 14 elections, 121 women will serve.

The number of women lawmakers in the parliament has increased from 103 to 121, showing a rise of only 3 percent compared to the previous period, as only one out of every five deputies in parliament is a woman.

Parliamentary commission decides to revoke immunity of HDP’s Güzel
The Parliamentary Drafting Commission on Feb. 3 decided to lift Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Semra Güzel's legislative immunity by a majority of votes. The commission will present its report to the Constitutional Justice Joint Committee next week.
Yeşilçam's iconic actress Fatma Girik passes away
Fatma Girik, a veteran actress of Turkish cinema, a.k.a. Yeşilçam, passed away on Jan. 24 at the age of 79.
She died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital in Istanbul, where she was being treated for COVID-19, according to a statement released by the hospital management.

Three women pedal from Austria to Turkey’s resort
Starting their journey from Austria on their bicycles, three women have finally reached the Aegean province of Aydın's Kuşadası district after pedaling more than 2,000 kilometers in 28 days.
Filiz Akıncı, a 27-year-old Turkish woman and a teacher working in Vienna, decided to travel from Europe to Turkey on a bike with her Austrian friends, Lisa Eibel and Andrea Maier.

Filiz Çağman, famous Turkish historian, dies at 81
Turkish historian Filiz Çağman, one of the world's leading experts on manuscripts and miniature art, died on Jan. 11 at the age of 81.
Retired in 2005, Çağman worked for 41 years at Istanbul's Topkapı Palace, one of the most famous landmarks of Istanbul that once housed Ottoman sultans while the city was the capital of the empire.
