A jail term of up to 23 years has been requested for the assailant involved in the tragic incident of last November's İzmir derby for throwing a signal flare.

The derby between the western province of İzmir's rivals, Göztepe and Altay, was suspended when a signal flare was thrown by Altay fan Furkan Ersanlı at the Göztepe stand, injuring a man and two children.

Two women have been killed by their partners over wanting a breakup in two different provinces of Turkey, adding to the country's long list of violence against women.

A man has disappeared into thin air after killing four people, including his wife, and wounding two others in southeastern Gaziantep province, while reports indicated he might also be responsible for the death of five other relatives who were found dead later on Feb. 5.
