Former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea has been sent to court by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in a new case, in which he is accused of influence peddling and use of influence or authority in connection with his presence at the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump at the beginning of 2017.

Romania's anti-corruption prosecutors on Thursday opened criminal proceedings against former strongman Liviu Dragnea, who is suspected of influence peddling to secure his presence at Donald's Trump's inauguration as US President on January 20, 2017.

Romania's ruling Social Democrat Party, PSD, hired a lobbying firm in Washington to facilitate meetings between party chief Liviu Dragnea and top US officials, according to documents published on the US Justice Department website.
