Profile of foreign homebuyers

Businesspeople and senior or top executives of companies, aged 50 and over, are today the main buying public for a holiday home in Greece. These are people who have saved money and are mainly interested in acquiring a newly built property in the Greek market, with their main aim being having it for their own use and secondarily for utilization through short-term rental platforms.

Foreigners buy bigger homes

Property buyers from abroad are this year opting for larger and more expensive holiday homes in Greece, as shown by the relevant data by the Elxis - At Home estate agency.

The average value of homes sold this year is 378,500 euros, being 27.8% higher than in 2023, and 44% higher than in 2022, when the properties being bought were of an average value of €263,000.

Capital gains for home buyers

The investment character that the housing market in Greece has acquired in recent years is consolidating. Foreign as well as Greek investors place themselves in residences with the expectation of obtaining significant capital gains thanks to price increases that will occur. Those who managed to acquire a property between 2018 and 2021 today are the big winners.

Greeks bounce back to holiday home buying

Greek buyers are now making a dynamic return to the holiday home market, for the first time since the outbreak of the financial crisis.

According to an analysis by holiday homes agency Elxis - At Home in Greece, in the last six months there has been a significant increase in both the demand for and purchases of holiday homes by Greeks.
