In a departure from traditional fortune-telling methods like daisy petals or tea leaves, Turkish coffee fortune-telling has surged in popularity, particularly among Generation Z, reveals an article by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Thousands of people gathered on Oct. 3 in Washington, D.C. for an annual event that offers a sampling of Turkish culture, food and music.

The 19th Annual Turkish Festival, organized by the American Turkish Association of Washington D.C., included live music, folk dance performances, fortune telling and cultural events.

For Turks, coffee is not simply a drink, it is a lifestyle, Gizem Şalcıgil White, who is known as the Turkish Coffee Lady, said on Dec. 5 as the U.S. capital marked World Turkish Coffee Day.
