Former Turkish footballer arrested over FETÖ links

Former footballer Zafer Biryol, who was wanted for "being a member of an armed terrorist organization," has been caught in an operation against FETÖ's "football structure" in Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district.

He was found to attend the FETÖ's meetings, visit Fethullah Gülen, the ringleader of the organization, in 2006 and have an account in Bank Asya, a FETÖ-linked bank.

Former Turkish international goalkeeper Ömer Çatkıç has been detained for alleged links to the network of Fethullah Gülen, the main suspect in the cases into last years' coup attempt, while Ahmet Şan, the chairman of Turkish First Division club Konyaspor, has testified to prosecutors over similar allegations. 

Turkey dismisses over 7,000 police, soldiers, ministry officials with new emergency decree

More than 7,000 people were dismissed with a new state of emergency decree published in the Official Gazette on July 14.

A total of 7,395 dismissals were carried out and 312 public workers were reinstated to their posts with the decree.

Turkish gov't warns Galatasaray over not expelling ex-players linked to Gülen

Turkey's sports minister and a deputy prime minister have criticized Galatasaray's decision not to publically disown two former footballers known to have ties with the network of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, widely believed to have orchestrated the failed July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
