Hasan Kılıç

Senior journalist Hasan Kılıç, a former employee of Hürriyet and the Turkish Journalism Association (TGC) member, has died at the age of 79 on Dec. 18.

Kılıç, who worked at Hürriyet for 34 years, died of a heart attack.

The one-of-its-kind rafting track situated in Orhaneli, a mountainous district of the northwestern province of Bursa, attracts a multitude of domestic and foreign visitors.

Lawyer Filiz Saraç has been elected as the new president of the Istanbul Bar Association, becoming the first woman to preside over the association in its 144-year history.

The Istanbul Bar Association, where four female candidates will compete for the presidency, will be chaired by a female lawyer for the first time in its history if one of them is elected.

Mehmet Durakoğlu, a candidate from the Principle Contemporary Lawyers Group (Önce İlke Çağdaş Avukatlar Grubu), was elected as the new head of the Istanbul Bar Association in late Oct. 23 after receiving more than 50 percent of the votes, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
Durakoğlu received 54.42 percent of the votes, sweeping to victory against the four other candidates.

Turkey has appealed the European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) ruling that said high school students must be allowed to opt out of religious education classes, which are currently compulsory.
