Salzburg Festival sold out while others struggle to regain audience

People fill the cobblestone streets of the city where Mozart was born, rushing to 213 performances over six weeks. While many classical music institutions struggle to regain audience, the Salzburg Festival is on track to draw people from over 75 nations to opera, concerts and drama.

Acclaimed German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, who started her career under the wing of the legendary Herbert von Karajan, is set to appear at the Herod Atticus Theater as part of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival (aefestival.gr). The world-class musician is joined by a string ensemble from her foundation and other selected young musicians.

Conductor Ion Marin was presented today with the French Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters "for his immense career, for his tireless friendship for France, for the constant connection he has established" between France and Romania, as French ambassador in Bucharest Laurence Auer said at the award ceremony.
