The number of Romanian tennis players on the main draw of the women's singles event of the French Open 2018, the second grand slam tournament of the year, reached six, as Alexandra Dulgheru won Friday in the last round of qualifications.
Dulgheru, 28, world number 160, defeated German Tamara Korpatsch, 23, world number 145, 6-1 5-7 7-6 (7) after two hours and 46 minutes.

Tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova has qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament in Moscow after scoring a quick victory in two sets over Serbian Aleksandra Krunic.
The best Bulgarian female tennis player defeated her opponent with 6: 2, 6: 3, which will ensure her a return to the top 40 in the world rankings, Dnevnik.bg reports.

Romania's Halep hanging on to #2 in WTA singles ranking
Romanian female tennis player Simona Halep is hanging on to the second position in the latest weekly WTA woman's singles ranking released on Monday, with 6,750 points. Topping the ranking is still Serena Williams of the US, with 9,430 points.
Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu jumped two positions to #60, with 898 points.
