Kilitbahir Castle Museum to reopen in New Year

Kilitbahir Castle was built in 1462 on the European side of the Çanakkale Strait under the supervision of Yakup Bey, the Sanjak Bey of Gallipoli, to prevent European states from aiding the Byzantine Empire. Designed by the renowned architect of the time, Muslihiddin, the fortress has been serving as a castle museum with its renewed appearance since 2018.

 

Famed diver captures Gallipoli's shipwrecks

Underwater photographer Alex Dawson has immortalized the 109-year-old shipwrecks in the Gallipoli Historical Underwater Park, located in the western province of Çanakkale.

Diving into the historical area, Dawson captured the remnants of World War I warships, including the "HMS Majestic" of the British Royal Navy, which sank off Seddülbahir Castle.

New Atatürk monument marks iconic photo spot 109 years on

In a moving tribute to modern Türkiye's founder and war hero Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a new monument was unveiled on the Gallipoli Peninsula, marking the exact spot where a historic photo of Atatürk was taken 109 years ago at the battlefield of the Gallipoli Campaign during the World War I.

French soldiers laid to rest in Çanakkale

The remains of 17 French soldiers who lost their lives during the Gallipoli campaign 107 years ago were laid to rest in a ceremony held at the Morto Bay in Çanakkale on April 24.

Only one of the soldiers was identified, but other archaeological finds, such as rings, grave signs, crosses and gravestones, revealed a former French cemetery near the Seddülbahir (Cape Helles) Castle.

Restoration of key castle during WWI about to end

The restoration of a 202-year-old castle, which was used as a combat center and weapon repair workshop during the Dardanelles Wars, is about to end, following six years of efforts.

Bigalı Castle, located on the European coast of Turkey's northwestern province of Çanakkale and completed during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II, will soon begin to welcome visitors once again.
