Three Bulgarian Police Officers Indicted over BGN 2.3 M Theft of Cigarettes

Bulgaria's prosecuting authority has indicted three police officers who allegedly stole hundreds of thousands of cigarette packs used as an evidence in an investigation.

The prosecution believes BGN 2.3 M worth of cigarettes were unlawfully taken by the police officers from an Interior Ministry-owned warehouse in north central Bulgaria.

Defendants in Vratsa Murder Case Released on Bail

The Sofia Court of Appeals has decided to release on bail two brothers who beat to death 18-year-old Todor Yordanov in broad daylight in the northwestern town of Vratsa.

Ivan Damyanov, 32, and his brother Desislav Damyanov, 36, have to pay BGN 2000 (EUR 1000) each. Earlier in January they were placed under house arrest.

Two men have been charged with the premeditated murder of 18-year old Todor Yordanov in Vratsa, in northwestern Bulgaria, the Chief Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday after the initial, more lenient charges unleashed a wave of discontent and protests against perceived inefficiency of law enforcement bodies in the country.
