VMRO DPMNE spokesperson Ivo Kotevski on Monday said the opposition party, which suffered a crushing defeat in just finished local elections, will not give up the few mayoral seats it won.

The head of communications for Macedonia's ruling VMRO DPMNE's party, Ivo Kotevski, has declined to confirm whether the party owns some 60 million euro of real estate, as an investigation by SCOOP-Macedonia published last week claims.

"I suppose that it [the media report] is commissioned [and based on a] lump assessments," Kotevski said.

As more than 10,000 refugees and migrants from Middle Eastern countries started to arrive in Macedonia for the second day, and with more on the way, authorities say capacities are being pushed to the limit.

Macedonia and Serbia, which both lie on the transit route to the EU, said they were prepared for more arrivals despite Germany's announcement on Sunday that it would be temporarily exiting the Schengen passport-free zone and reintroducing to deal with the large influx of refugees.

Macedonia on Sunday assisted thousands of migrants to resume their journeys through the country and into Serbia after the authorities tried to seal their southern border last Thursday and declared a crisis situation, which resulted in chaotic scenes and clashes with police.

Macedonian police fired tear gas at crowds of refugees on the Greek border on Friday, to deter them from trying to enter the country. Video footage showed at least several refugees were injured.

The previous day the Macedonian government declared a state of emergency on its southern and northern border following an unprecedented influx of refugees.

Macedonia has declared crisis situation in two border regions due to "an unprecedented flow of refugees from the Middle East" entering from Greece, MIA reported on Thursday.

The government in Skopje on Thursday declared a state of emergency along its southern and northern borders due to a rising wave of migrants.

This creates the possibility of deploying the Macedonian army, Interior Ministry spokesperson Ivo Kotevski said.

Macedonia said it was deploying troops on the border with Greece, in a last-ditch move to stem to flow of refugees into and across the country.

The aim was to enhance control of the border area, Ivo Kotevski, spokesperson of the Ministry for Interior, explained on Thursday.

Macedonia's Interior Ministry has launched a special operation to arrest alleged Islamic State (IS) members.
