A host of celebrities and comedy royalty gathered Sunday night at the Kennedy Center as comedian, talk show host and political influencer Jon Stewart receives the Mark Twain Prize for lifetime achievement in humor.

A new era in American talk show comedy begins Sept. 8 when Stephen Colbert officially steps into the shoes of television legend David Letterman at the helm of "The Late Show." The man who shot to prominence on Comedy Central with an ultra-conservative alter-ego on "The Colbert Report" moves to CBS and a world of late night vastly different from the golden years of Letterman.
 

Jon Stewart wrapped up his long-running "The Daily Show" on Aug. 6 with effusive tributes to his show's staff, many on hand to see him off while political and media luminaries who served as some of the satirist's favorite targets, from Bill O'Reilly to Hillary Clinton, appeared on tape.

Not even Barack Obama wants to see him go. But after informing and entertaining American viewers for 16 years, Jon Stewart will present his final episode of "The Daily Show" on August 6.

The Tribeca Film Festival ended with a bang: a special 25th anniversary screening of the Martin Scorsese gangster film "Goodfellas."
