PM says mosque conversion ‘completely unnecessary’

During his customary monthly briefing at the Presidential Mansion, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his dissatisfaction with the conversion of a former Byzantine church in Istanbul, the Monastery of Chora, into a mosque.

He pledged to raise the issue with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Ankara next Monday.

Greek President presents replica of Kore statue to Chile

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou wrapped up her official visit to Chile unveiling a replica of the Kore statue from the Archaic period that will go on display at Santiago's Grecia metro station. Donated by the Acropolis Museum the artefact is meant to symbolize the friendly ties between the two nations.

Acknowledgement and vigilance is required for the victims of the Armenian Genocide, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou said in a statement on Wednesday, marking the 109th anniversary since the start of a systematic extermination of one and a half million Armenians during the last period of the Ottoman Empire.

President wraps up visit to Uruguay

President Katerina Sakellaropoulou has wrapped up her visit to Uruguay with the laying of a wreath at the statue of the country's national hero, José Artigas.

Sakellaropoulou then went to the parliament building, where she was welcomed by Uruguayan Vice-President Beatriz Argimón and given a tour of the space where the country's first constitution is kept.
