The government is not taking necessary measures for the protection of Turkish farmers who are severely suffering from the economic decline, the main opposition leader has said, urging agriculture associations to put pressure on the government to get fresh subsidies.

The resignations of three lawmakers from the Republican People's Party (CHP) will not impact the opposition party, party spokesperson Faik Öztrak said Feb. 1.

"People come and go. The CHP continues to advance and to be a stakeholder," Öztrak said at a press conference.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Feb. 1 called on the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) grassroots to make efforts for reinstating the estranged party members.

"Let us recruit our friends who have been separated from our party due to any reason," Erdoğan said, virtually addressing the provincial meetings of the AKP in Adana, Antalya, Muğla and Bursa.

Former Turkish Energy and Natural Sources Minister Ömer Cahit Kayra died late on Jan. 30. He was 104.

"I am deeply saddened with the passing of one of our former ministers, an important bureaucrat, politician and statesman Ömer Cahit Kayra," chairperson of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said on social media.

Three lawmakers from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) have resigned from the party after a disagreement with party chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu over the direction and management of the party.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the opposition Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) have agreed to launch consultations to harmonize their ideas about a strengthened parliamentary system.
