Prime minister rejects criticism of minister over police station murder

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday rejected calls for Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis to take responsibility for the murder of 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva by her abusive ex-partner outside an Athens police station just moments after she had sought help from the authorities.

Spike in domestic violence reports raises concerns in Greece

Authorities have received a flurry of reports regarding incidents of domestic violence since Monday. A total of 142 complaints have been filed, resulting in 54 arrests. 

The spike in reports follows the recent femicide in Agioi Anargyroi, where Kyriaki Griva tragically lost her life, allegedly murdered by her former partner right outside the police station. 

Police officers’ responsibilities ascertained in Griva murder

​​​​​​The internal investigation of the Hellenic Police (ELAS) into the murder of Kyriaki Griva outside a police precinct last week has ascertained disciplinary lapses and criminal responsibilities of the officers that were on duty on the night of the incident on April 1. 

Killer attempts suicide in prison

A 39-year-old man being held on remand for the murder of his ex-partner outside a police station on Monday has been hospitalized after a suicide attempt.

The killer of Kyriaki Griva, 28, was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious in his cell. 

He is being treated in the intensive care unit of Attikon hospital in Athens.
