Türkiye welcomes Denmark move to ban acts against Quran

 

Türkiye has expressed its support for Denmark's recent move to combat disrespect towards holy books, particularly the Quran.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan welcomed the draft law presented in the Danish parliament aimed at preventing hate crimes and punishing perpetrators involved in attacks on sacred texts.

Dacic meets with Rasmussen

BELGRADE - Serbian FM Ivica Dacic met with Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen in Belgrade on Thursday, and said Serbia was advocating preservation of peace and prevention of loss of life in Kosovo-Metohija and called for an objective assessment of the situation there.

Ai Weiwei pulls Danish exhibitions in protest at migrant law

Dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei said he would withdraw from two exhibitions in Denmark to protest against an asylum law passed by parliament that included rules on confiscating valuables from migrants to help pay for their stay. 

His decision is the latest in a cultural backlash against Denmark which on Jan. 26 passed the measures aimed at deterring refugees from seeking asylum. 

Germany sees Schengen 'in danger' with new EU border curbs

The passport-free Schengen zone is "in danger" because of Europe's refugee crisis, Germany warned on Jan. 4 after Nordic countries announced new controls at their borders to stem a migrant influx.

"Freedom of movement is an important principle - one of the biggest achievements [in the European Union] in recent years," Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer told reporters.
