Romanian-Japanese pair Monica Niculescu/Misaki Doi on Wednesday qualified in Melbourne for the second round of the women's doubles event at the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year, after defeating 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 the pair Ana Kalinskaia (Russia)/Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan).
Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova to Face Serena Williams in Second Round in Cincinnati
Bulgaria's top ranking female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova proceeded to the second round of the Western and Southern Open tournament, which is taking place in Cincinnati between August 15 and 23.
In the first round Pironkova defeated Lucie Hradecka from the Czech Republic with 7:5, 3:6, 6:1 in a match, which lasted one hour and 45 minutes.

Romanian-Slovenian pair formed by Horia Tecau and Katarina Srebotnik has qualified for the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event of the Roland Garros tournament, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, on Saturday, after defeating Indian-Swiss pair Leander Paes/Martina Hingis, seeded eighth in the event, by 6-7 (6), 6-3, 10-6.

Bulgarian tennis player Sesil Karatancheva progressed two positions in the latest WTA ranking, recording 107th place and moving closer to the top 100.
Karatancheva performed well in the qualifications of the Prague Open and was close to reaching the first round of the main stage of the tournament.

MELBOURNE - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic has faced an early exit at the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne after losing to Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic 2-1 early Monday.
The start of the match suggested a different outcome as Ivanovic won the first set 6-1 in a convincing manner.

Olaru, Tatishvili win doubles final of WTA Linz tennis tournament
The pair made up of Romanian tennis player Raluca Olaru and Georgian-born American player Anna Tatishvili won the doubles event of the 250,000-dollar WTA tournament in Linz, Austria, after defeating on Sunday the duo Annika Beck (Germany) / Caroline Garcia (France) 6-2, 6-1.
Olaru and Tatishvili will receive 9,919 euros and 280 WTA points for their performance.
