Minister of European Funds Marius Nica believes that Romania's Large Infrastructure Operational Programme might be approved in Brussels this June, if officials take all the necessary steps.

Romania avoided losing almost 750 million euros, thanks to a series of decisions taken by the Juncker Commission, through the retroactive approval of funds for a series of projects, the European Commissioner for Regional Policies, Corina Cretu, said in a meeting with the Minister of European Funds, Marius Nica.

Romania's Minister for European Funds, Marius Nica, on Friday confirmed that the EU has temporarily suspended allocation of about 1 billion euro for Romanian projects because of allegations of corruption and other irregularities.

They were "investigating complaints related to alleged irregularities in some human resources, water supply and subway projects," Nica said.

The European Commission has acknowledged the cumbersome bureaucracy related to European funds and asked the Romanian Ministry for European Funds to adopt simplified cost settlement procedures for certain operational programs, European Funds Minister Marius Nica told AGERPRES in an interview.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appointed on Monday Eugen Teodorovici as the country's new Finance Minister.

The inauguration ceremony of Teodorovici, who succeeded resigned Darius Valcov, took place at the Cotroceni Palace, AGERPRES news agency reports.

President Klaus Iohannis on Monday wished success to Eugen Teodorovici as Finance Minister, within the investiture ceremony having taken place at the Cotroceni Palace.

"I wish you success in the new position, much efficiency and all the best," the head of state told Teodorovici.

Eugen Teodorovici, currently European Funds Ministry, was proposed by Prime Minister Victor Ponta to take over the portfolio of Finance Minister.

The Prime Minister mentioned, on Friday, that Teodorovici will be replaced at the European Funds Ministry by Marius Nica.
