Facebook is blocked in China, but its co-founder Mark Zuckerberg appears determined to win over hearts and minds in Beijing -- surprising a hall full of students by conducting a Q&A session in Mandarin.

Initially, some American sportsmen started this tradition with an ice bucket. When the 29-year-old baseball player Pete Frates was diagnosed with ALS in 2012, he turned this ice tradition into an awareness campaign.

Two Turkish football stars - Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan and Galatasaray forward Burak Yılmaz - have joined the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which has gone viral since last week. 

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is of Bulgarian descent, according to the Macedonian site Republika Online, quoting international media. 

According to the site, Zuckerberg told AP that he was very proud of his Bulgarian origin and was named after his Bulgarian grandfather Marko, on his mother's side.
