Matej Mohorič wins Tour de France stage 19
Slovenian rider Matej Mohorič won stage 19 of the Tour de France on 21 July in a photo finish ahead of Danish rider Kasper Asgreen and Australian Ben O'Connor.
Mohorič, who rides for Bahrain Victorious, was able to break away from the peloton 31 km before the finish line, when he attacked together with Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step) and O'Connor (AG2R Citroen).

Avant Car plans to continue expanding EV sharing
Avant Car runs Slovenia's biggest electric car sharing system, Avant2Go, with a fleet of 500 fully electric vehicles. Further expansion is planned, says director Matej Čer.
Additional locations and vehicles will be added in Slovenia to ensure broad coverage and meet the needs of users, Čer told the Slovenian Press Agency.

Zana wins Tour of Slovenia
Italian rider Filippo Zana (Jayco-AlUla) has won the Tour of Slovenia, a dream finish after a spectacular yet injury-free fall in the penultimate stage. He came in second in the last stage on 18 June but retained his lead on the stage winner, the Slovenian Matej Mohorič (Bahrain Victorious)-

Brglez willing to run for president, SD says
Ljubljana – MEP Milan Brglez (S&D/SD) has expressed the willingness to run for president, the junior coalition Social Democrats (SD) told the STA on Wednesday, expressing the wish that he be supported by the entire coalition. The SD presidency is expected to formally nominate him tomorrow afternoon.

Memory of Slovenian anti-fascist fighters honoured in Basovizza
Basovizza – Addressing a ceremony marking 95 years since the shooting of four Slovenian anti-fascist fighters in Basovizza, Minister for Slovenians Abroad Matej Arčon said that righting of wrongs and harmony was something that was worth fighting for. He said that if united Europe will overcome the unusual challenges it was faced with.
Freedom Movement officially nominates Kos for president
Ljubljana – The senior coalition Freedom Movement confirmed its vice president Marta Kos as its candidate for the autumn presidential election on Wednesday. The decisions by the party’s executive committee and party council were unanimous.

Novo Mesto – The young generation plays a key role in preserving Slovenian identity in communities living abroad, Minister for Slovenians Abroad Matej Arčon said on Saturday, as he addressed the main event of Welcome Home, the 12th annual get-together of the Slovenian diaspora.
Minister holds online talks with Slovenians in Germany, US
Ljubljana – Minister for Slovenians Abroad Matej Arčon held online meetings on Tuesday with representatives of Slovenian associations in Germany and the US. He invited all of them to actively participate in the European Capital of Culture 2025 project and announced regular meetings on a monthly basis.
Pogačar takes his second Tour of Slovenia
Every day on 2022 Tour of Slovenia was spectacular, same is true also for the last stage. Slovenians Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) & Matej Mohorič (Bahrain-Victorious) went head-to-head for a stage victory, Tadej was faster and he took his second stage on the Slovenian tour. He’s also the overall winner.

Cukrarna hosts charity auction for Ukraine’s Kharkiv
Ljubljana – The Cukrarna art gallery will host a charity auction on Monday evening to raise funds for post-war reconstruction of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Up for sale will be iconic chairs made by Slovenian industrial designer Niko Kralj with a new touch by a number of visual artists. The “reworked” chairs are already on display at Cukrarna.
