Court rejects proposal to stay govt’s decision not to appoint EDPs
Ljubljana – The Ljubljana Administrative Court has rejected a request from prosecutors Tanja Frank Eler and Matej Oštir to stay the government’s May decision not to get formally acquainted with their appointment as Slovenia’s European delegated prosecutors (EDPs), saying that the request has not been sufficiently reasoned.
Ministry receives two bids in new call for delegated prosecutors
Ljubljana – The Justice Ministry confirmed it had received two applications for the two posts of Slovenia’s European delegated prosecutors in the second nomination procedure. Matej Oštir and Tanja Frank Eler, the candidates that had been rejected in the first call, have already said they have applied.
Slovenia Criticised for Delay in Choosing EU Graft-Fighting Prosecutors
Despite repeated calls from EU officials, Slovenia has not yet selected prosecutors to delegate to the newly established EU prosecutor's office, which will investigate fraud, corruption and money laundering involving the EU budget.
On Monday, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders reiterated his call for Slovenia to appoint prosecutors.
Govt could annul procedure to pick delegated prosecutors
Ljubljana/Brdo pri Kranju – The government could vote on a proposal to annul the procedure to appoint Slovenia’s two European delegated prosecutors on Thursday and then publish a new call for applications, media have reported. PM Janez Janša said the government would check the appointment procedure Thursday to decide whether to proceed with it or repeat it.
