Council of Europe Anti-Torture Committee Visits Bulgaria to Assess the Situation of Foreign Nationals Detained Under Aliens Legislation

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) carried out an ad hoc visit to Bulgaria from 10 to 17 December 2018.

Personal Care Act Adopted by Bulgarian MPs, Mothers End Protest

MPs finally adopted the bill which, as mothers of disabled children say, had been awaited since 2014 when they first started protests on the issue, reports BNT.

From now on the money for personal care will be transferred from the state's budget to the budget of the Social Care Ministry. The Agency of Social Support shall control the spendings of these funds.

The Ombudsman will refer the postponement of the electronic voting to the Constitutional Court. The national Ombudsman, Maya Manolova, announced this intention at a discussion "For and Against Machine and Remote Electronic Voting", organized by Bulgaria for the Citizens Movement (BCM) on 26th of November, reports BNT. 

Bulgarian Ombudsperson Submits Critical Opinion on Draft Budget of National Health Fund

Bulgaria's national Ombudsperson, Maya Manolova, submitted a critical opinion to Parliament on the budget bill of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for 2019, the Ombudsperson's press office announced on 29th of October, reports BNT. 

Mothers of Children with Disabilities Staged a National Protest Across Bulgaria

Mothers of children with disabilities staged another protest on 2nd of October across the country under the slogan, "The system kills us - the system is blocked." This time they expressed their dissatisfaction with a protest march.

In Sofia, protesters blocked the Eagles Bridge for about an hour and a half and then their march finished in front of the Parliament.
