Türk Telekom has built a high-capacity submarine data network at the Aegean resort town of Marmaris as a part of a $700-million project.

The SEA-ME-WE-5 project will connect 17 countries, including Turkey, to a system that stretches for more than 20,000 kilometers between Asia and Europe, according to company representatives. 

Türk Telekom Group has allocated two thirds of its investments, which by the end of this year will be approximately 20 billion Turkish Liras ($6.7 billion) since 2005, to infrastructure and fiber, CEO Rami Aslan said on Sept. 2.

The reconstruction process inside Turkey?s Türk Telekom, dubbed the ?integration,? has been completed much quicker than its competitors in the world, CEO Rami Arslan has said, adding the company will continue to be a pioneer in communication technologies in the country with its strong infrastructure in all fields.
