Turkey's Foreign Ministry has begun appointing new envoys to missions abroad, with the ministry's spokesperson, Hami Aksoy, being be assigned as Ankara's ambassador to Belgrade.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a phone conversation with some ambassadors to notify them on their new positions and extended his best wishes, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Dec. 8.

The death toll from a powerful earthquake in eastern Turkey has risen to 41, the country's disaster relief agency said on Jan. 27.

The 6.8-magnitude quake shook eastern Elazığ province late on Jan. 24. Tremors were also felt in neighboring countries including Syria and Georgia.

There are 2,864 earthquake assembly areas in Istanbul, Mehmet Güllüoğlu, the head of Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), said, in the aftermath of the 5.8-magnitude quake that struck the city on Sept. 26. These assembly areas consist of parks and gardens, he said.

First lady Emine Erdoğan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh alongside a Turkish delegation on Sept. 7. 

"It's impossible not to be effected [by the situation] as a human. May God help them," Erdoğan said after visiting the Kutupalong Camp, housing Rohingya Muslims who have fled from violence in Myanmar since Aug. 25.
