President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appointed Muhsin Şentürk as the new chief public prosecutor of the Court of Appeals.

Şentürk's appointment comes after a 37-round presidential election held by the top appeals court that saw him emerge as one of the candidates. He exited the race with two rounds remaining.

The members of the Court of Appeals have elected Ömer Kerkez as their new president, breaking a long-standing deadlock in the 37th round of voting.

The members of Türkiye's highest administrative court, the Council of State, have reelected the incumbent president, Zeki Yiğit, for a new four-year term with 62 votes.

Yiğit, whose term of office that began in May 2020 was due to expire, competed against three other candidates in the elections held on April 24.

The Court of Appeals on April 15 once again failed to elect a new president in the 16th round of the election that has been underway since the end of March, finding itself in a deadlock.
