The Personal Data Protection Authority has imposed fines of €10,000 and €30,000 on New Democracy (ND) following its investigation into the email leak involving former ND MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou. While the Authority concluded that ND was not directly involved in the leak, it penalized the party for failing to take adequate measures to protect personal data.

What the Interior Ministry said in its announcement regarding the independent investigation into the leak of the emails of dozens of overseas Greeks was true.

Nasos Balerbas, secretary-general of the Interior Ministry, will replace in the coming days another ministry official who resigned over a data breach scandal in which emails were sent to diaspora voters by a Conservative European Parliamentarian, Kathimerini understands. 

The socialist opposition party PASOK reacted on Friday to the scandal involving the unauthorized release of official voter registration data from the Interior Ministry, while calling for Minister Niki Kerameus to be held accountable for the breach.

Interior Ministry General Secretary Michalis Stavrianoudakis on Friday tendered his resignation amid the scandal involving mass campaign emails sent by a New Democracy MEP to Greek voters residing overseas, breaching GDPR regulations.

New Democracy's Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Nikos Theodoropoulos, was dismissed in connection with the same incident.

A total of 31.52 percent of registered voters have participated in Greece's legislative elections so far, according to Michalis Stavrianoudakis, the Interior Ministry's general secretary.

This figure is based on the data received from judicial representatives at 16,520 polling stations, which accounts for 77 percent of the total polling stations across the country. 

While voters with digital IDs may use them to identify themselves at polling stations on Sunday's general election, they may face delays, an Interior Ministry official has warned.
