US President Donald Trump on Monday demanded Turkey stop its military incursion in Syria and imposed new sanctions on the NATO ally as Trump scrambled to limit the damage from his much-criticized decision to clear US troops from Turkey's path.

Turkey's Vice President Fuat Oktay on Sept. 1 attended a ceremony, to mark the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the World War II, in the Polish capital Warsaw and held talks with his U.S. counterpart Mike Pence.

The date that evokes the onset of those nightmares is September 1, 1939 — the day Germany invaded Poland.

On Sunday, around 250 international guests will meet in Warsaw to commemorate the beginning of the darkest period of European history.
