BALKANS INFLUENCE Montenegro invited to join NATO

NATO has invited Montenegro to become the 29th member state of the organization, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The decision to invite Montenegro was adopted unanimously, Beta is reporting on Wednesday.

US Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he strongly supported Montenegro's membership of NATO, adding that the doors of the alliance were open.

Attending the Brod-Brijuni summit in Zagreb, Croatia, Biden said that Balkan NATO members Croatia and Slovenia had both shown what was possible through reform and reconciliation.

Montenegro's Defence Minister, Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic, will visit Serbia in the last week of August to discuss joint training of troops and military exercises.
