Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sept.23 pardoned the jailed Canadian journalist with Al-Jazeera television, Mohamed Fahmy, and his colleague Baher Mohamed, along with 100 prisoners, the presidency and official media reported.

Egypt summoned the British ambassador to reject as "unacceptable interference" comments he made on an Egyptian court's decision to hand down prison sentences for three Al Jazeera journalists, state media said on Aug. 30.

Many western countries voiced swift disapproval after an Egyptian court on Aug. 29 handed down three-year prison sentences to three Al-Jazeera reporters whom they have long demanded be released.
