Released Gaza detainees allege torture by Israel amid war
Blindfolded, beaten and sometimes bitten by dogs, Gazans released from Israeli prisons allege being tortured amid the Israel-Hamas war, which rights groups say has worsened conditions for detainees.
Mohammed Abu Salmiya, former director of Al-Shifa, Gaza's biggest hospital, is the latest to report mistreatment by Israel.
Gaza hospital chief says after release he was tortured by Israel
The head of the Gaza Strip's biggest hospital said on Monday he had been "tortured" by Israel after being freed from more than seven months of detention.
Al-Shifa hospital director Mohammed Abu Salmiya was among more than 50 Palestinians released and returned to Gaza for treatment, according to an Israeli minister and a medical source in the besieged territory.
"They were turned into a cemetery"
As they stated, there are bodies around the hospital that cannot be taken to morgues or buried.
WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier said that around 600 people remained in hospital, the BBC reports.
