Muhsin Şentürk appointed as appeals court's top judge

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appointed Muhsin Şentürk as the new chief public prosecutor of the Court of Appeals.

Şentürk's appointment comes after a 37-round presidential election held by the top appeals court that saw him emerge as one of the candidates. He exited the race with two rounds remaining.

Top administrative court reelects incumbent head

The members of Türkiye's highest administrative court, the Council of State, have reelected the incumbent president, Zeki Yiğit, for a new four-year term with 62 votes.

Yiğit, whose term of office that began in May 2020 was due to expire, competed against three other candidates in the elections held on April 24.

The Court of Appeals found itself in a deadlock on March 26 as five rounds of voting have failed to produce a clear winner in the critical election to determine its new head.
