Democrats seized control of the House of Representatives on Tuesday in a midterm setback for Donald Trump, but the US president managed to avoid a feared "blue wave" as his Republican Party expanded its Senate majority after a polarizing, racially charged campaign, reports AFP. 

U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled his long-awaited plan to combat the nation's opioid addiction crisis on Monday, Voice of America reported.

In a speech at an event in Manchester, N.H., Trump vowed to help create "a generation of drug-free children" saying, "together, we will end the scourge of drug addiction in America once and for all."

The US is to terminate a programme that gives more than 50,000 immigrants from Haiti protection against deportation, reported BBC.

Immigrants from the Caribbean nation received protected status in 2010 after a devastating earthquake.

But the Trump administration says conditions there have now improved and its nationals can return safely.

The top House and Senate Democrats said on Sept. 13 they had reached agreement with President Donald Trump to protect thousands of younger immigrants from deportation and fund some border security enhancements - not including Trump's long-sought border wall.
