Nazım Hikmet

Turkey on June 3 marked the 58th death anniversary of legendary Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet.

Hikmet was born in 1902 to an elite family in Thessaloniki, an Ottoman Empire territory in present-day Greece. He grew up in Anatolia, the Turkish heartland.

Hailed by many as the writer of hope, Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet, with his profound optimism, may be just what the world needs now to face down the era of coronavirus.

Turkish actors have launched a donation platform to help unemployed theater workers as the sector is now one of the hardest hit because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.     
Actors including Ali Düşenkalkar, Çağlar Çorumlu and Tilbe Saran organized the campaign for stage workers.

The great Turkish poet and writer Nazım Hikmet's personal belongings, which he collected or made in prison, are being sold online by an auction house. The belongings were found in garbage by waste pickers. 

The government is willing to bring the remains of the legendary poet Nazım Hikmet back to Turkey, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said on Jan. 16.
