PASOK MEP Nikos Papandreou announced on Wednesday his support for Pavlos Geroulanos, a former culture minister, in the upcoming leadership contest.
"If the members and friends of the party decide to give him this historic opportunity, I believe he can use it to benefit the party and society," said Papandreou.

Party cadres challenge PASOK’s leader
The rumbling since Sunday's European election - in which socialist PASOK remained stranded in third place, with only a slight increase in its percentage - was finally given voice on Wednesday by senior party official Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, who openly raised the issue of Nikos Androulakis' leadership, calling for the immediate launch of procedures leading to elections for a leader in 2024.<

Androulakis resigning as MEP to run in general elections
The leader of the centre-left opposition party PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, initiated on Wednesday the process for his resignation as a member of the European Parliament, in order to run in Greece's upcoming elections.
The move came after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the elections will be held on May 21.
