Tens of thousands of protesters from across Lebanon staged a mass rally in downtown Beirut on Aug. 29 against a political class they accuse of corruption and failing to provide basic services.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has offered to help his Lebanese counterpart Tammam Salam in overcoming the huge garbage crisis in the country, which has shaken Salam's national unity government amid angry street protests. 

A double suicide attack that killed eight people at a cafe in the Lebanese city of Tripoli was carried out by the Islamic State group, the interior minister said on Jan. 11, contradicting a claim of responsibility by the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.
