Albania's Appeal Court has ordered a retrial in the long-lasting case that should determine who will hold the seal of the main opposition centre-right Democratic Party.

Albania's political scene is expected to be tense for months to come as around 30,000 officials complete questionnaires concerning any past criminal convictions and the date is verified.

The situation is already heated after the Mayor of Kavaja, Elvis Rroshi, from the ruling Socialist Party, left office on Tuesday as a result of new facts emerging about his past.

Albanian officials and members of parliament will soon have to fill and sign the questionnaire as part of efforts to implement the law that bans people with past convictions from holding public office.
