Parliament appoints officials to financial, fiscal, media public offices

In a joint meeting on Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate appointed members to the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), the Fiscal Council, and also nominated the chairman of the National Audio-Visual Council (CNA). The voting was secret, with ballot papers.

Tariceanu, on possible criminal complaint against Iohannis:Let's not take political debate to very low level

Bucharest, Feb 9 /Agerpres/ - Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said on Saturday about the possibility of filing a criminal complaint against President Klaus Iohannis that he heard "all kinds of rumors" and does not want the political debate to be taken "to a very low level".

Ponta asks for pension increase enforcement, under new law, as of 1 January 2019

Leader of the Pro Romania Party Victor Ponta announced on Saturday evening he agrees to the pensions being increased as of 1 January 2019, adding that he will file an amendment in this respect when the new pension draft law is debated in Parliament.

The deputy chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL, opposition) Raluca Turcan says that the chairman of the Social Democratic Party (main ruling PSD) sent Olguta Vasilescu, the Minister of Labor, to announce the Pension law prior to diaspora's meeting (August 10, ed. n), just like Nicolae Ceausescu did in 1989.

Deputy PM Stanescu: Pension Pillar II must be optional

Deputy Prime Minister Paul Stanescu considers Private Pensions Pillar II must be optional and the Gov't must explain which are the advantages of this fund, if pensions are higher or lower following contributions to it.

Stanescu reaffirmed that there hasn't been any discussion in the Social Democratic Party (PSD) about suspending Pension Pillar II.
