Let’s not forget to whom we owe a debt

We are marking 50 years since the dramatic events of July 1974 in Cyprus. We must never forget that the hours of great joy for the restoration of democracy in Greece were the hours of great sadness and tragedy for Cyprus. And also we must not forget to whom we owe a debt. As memories fade, the danger of forgetting is visible.

Agricultural damage found to be far greater than Ianos

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food estimates that damage caused by the Daniel weather system to crop and animal production on the Thessaly Plain, a region famous for its agricultural production, will be three times worse than that which resulted from Ianos in 2020.

Some 73,000 hectares across Thessaly are under water, with 50,000-55,000 sown with cotton.

The storm brought heavy rainfall that caused floods and landslides, and destroyed roads and bridges.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has postponed an annual economic policy speech scheduled for this weekend and will instead visit flooded areas hit by heavy rain since Monday, Reuters reported.

Two people dead from West Nile virus

Eight new cases of West Nile virus and two patient fatalities were reported in Greece over the last week, highlighting the dangers of mosquito bites.

This summer, a total of 11 cases have been reported to the National Public Health Organization, 10 of which were more serious due to central nervous system symptoms.
