Ministers attend Elefsina conference on anti-flood work

Several key ministers attended a conference in Elefsina, western Attica, on Saturday, aimed at improving anti-flood works in the region following catastrophic floods last month that killed more than 20 people and wreaked massive damage to state infrastructure and private property.

Regional authorities have already approved a 500-million-euro program for anti-flood works.

Amid fiscal constraints, Greek gov't plans more hirings

In a move that many are describing as a bid to lure voters, Interior Minister Panos Skourletis announced on Friday that the number of permanent municipal sanitation staff will be increased from 6,500 to 8,800.

Speaking to state-run TV on Friday, Skourletis said the hirings - announced at a time of fiscal constraints - will meet "municipalities' real needs."

SYRIZA's political council expresses 'full support' for Elliniko project

The political council of leftist SYRIZA on Thursday issued a statement expressing its "full support" for the completion of "all the necessary steps related to the launch of the realization of the investment at Elliniko, with full respect for the law and the foreseen procedures."
