At 7 a.m. the polls opened for the second round of the internal elections in PASOK-Ministry of Change, for the election of the party’s president, in which the current president Nikos Androulakis, and the mayor of Athens, Haris Dukas, are facing off.

From “all against all” to “all-to-all” communications, the summit battle in PASOK is shifting in the final 24 hours before the second-round polls that will determine the winner of the election.

The movements on the internal party chessboard are rapidly developing between the two PASOK leadership candidates ahead of the final battle for the leadership this coming Sunday.

Mayor Haris Doukas’ team is planning to improve his image in Attica, where he faces an unfavorable correlation of forces after placing fourth.

A proposal to hold a debate was made by PASOK – Movement for Change presidential candidate, Charis Doukas, addressing state-run ERT television.

In a post on social media, Doukas said he had already contacted ERT’s management asking for a “lively and productive dialogue” between him and Nikos Androulakis.

In an analysis of the winners, losers, and the “communication sponsor” in the first round of elections for the new president of PASOK, Aris Spiliotopoulos highlighted two winners: Pavlos Geroulanos and Kostas Bakoyannis. He noted that Geroulanos narrowly missed advancing to the second round but succeeded in gaining political acceptance and respect from both allies and opponents.

PASOK is entering the most difficult and final phase of the leadership contest after a first round that turned into a thriller before the duo was determined to face off in the second round.

After a nail-biting first round in PASOK's leadership elections, it was decided that incumbent leader Nikos Androulakis will face off against Athens Mayor Haris Doukas in next Sunday's runoff.

Doukas secured second place over MP and former minister Pavlos Geroulanos by a razor-thin margin of just 858 votes, according to final results published Monday morning.

With Androulakis’ re-election to the leadership almost certain after the first-round election results, PASOK had only a gain of 31,000 members and friends yesterday, as turnout once again rose to just over 300,000 citizens, up from 272,000 in 2021 and 400,000 in 2015 for ND.
