Alphabet's Google has unveiled new Pixel smartphones with higher quality cameras, a radar sensor to track hand gestures and faster virtual assistant, but the devices had no surprise features to set them apart from rivals and nix concerns about price.

Google's new flagship smartphones have been hit by complaints about the quality of the screen, reported BBC.

Tech reviewers, who have had the device for about two weeks, noticed "burn in" on the display, while others noted "muddy" discolouration on the screen.

Google said it was investigating the issue, which it took "very seriously".

Alphabet Inc's Google on Wednesday unveiled the second generation of its Pixel smartphone along with new voice-enabled home speakers, redoubling its commitment to the hardware business as it competes with a surge of devices from Apple Inc  and Amazon.com Inc, according to Reuters. 

Taiwan's struggling smartphone maker HTC said on Sept. 21 it would sell part of its smartphone business to Google for $1.1 billion as the U.S. giant looks to take greater control of its hardware business.

Google has broadened its smartphone manufacturing operations with an agreement to pay $1.1bn to transfer about 2,000 staff from Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, reported Financial Times.

Google said it would pay $1.1 billion in cash to acquire the division at Taiwan's HTC Corp that develops the U.S. firm's Pixel smartphones, its latest push into hardware manufacturing.

Google has sought to beef up its hardware capability with deals and product launches, and last year hired Rick Osterloh, a former Motorola executive, to run its hardware division.
