Eurobank's chief economist Platon Monokroussos is leaving the bank to join hedge fund firm Brevan Howard, sources at Greece's third-largest lender by assets told Reuters on Monday.

Founded in 2002 by former Credit Suisse traders Alan Howard, Jean Philippe Blochet, Chris Rokos and Tryfon Natsis, Brevan Howard has more than 15 billion euros in assets under management.

Data released by the Elstat statistics bureau on Monday indicates that the Greek economy has expanded for the second consecutive quarter, beating forecasts and emerging from a protracted recession for the first time in two years.

Greece's economy shrank in the first quarter at its slowest annual pace since late 2008 when its protracted recession began, data showed on Friday, supporting projections that Athens will emerge from a crippling six-year slump this year.
