The 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), Borusan Sanat and Accademia Teatro alla Scala, concluded with the final gala and award ceremony at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall on Sept. 27.

A special opera gala aimed at supporting the educational goals of the “Maria Callas Scholarships” Association, founded by the opera legend herself, will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, in the Christos Lambrakis Hall of the Athens Concert Hall.

The event will feature two distinguished soloists, soprano Alexia Voulgaridou and baritone Aris Argiris.

French pop opera star Emma Shapplin will captivate audiences at Athens' Odeon of Herodes Atticus on September 20. For one night only, the soprano will perform her signature mix of classical and contemporary music, joined by her French band and a grand classical choir. Expect a powerful show featuring beloved hits and dramatic opera arias by Puccini.

The 30 International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, which opened on Sept. 4 with the opera 'Aida' in Antalya's historical theater of Aspendos, will continue with Puccini's 'Tosca' opera on Sept 8. The event will also present Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Ballet' on Sept 13 and 14, Minkus' 'La Bayadere' on Sept 17 and the Gala Concert on Sept 21

Starring Cellia Costea, Alisa Kolosova, Diamanti Kritsotaki and Andrea Care, Puccini's popular masterpiece "Madama Butterfly" is being brought to the Herod Atticus Theater this summer by the Greek National Opera (nationalopera.gr). The ambitious production is directed by the Avignon Festival's Olivier Py and conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos. Ticket prices range from 25 to 100 euros. 

A documentary on the life of Leyla Gencer, one of the most important opera singers of the 20th Century, has been released online for art lovers.

As part of its Musical Journeys series, the Athens Municipal Orchestra teams up with cellist Marina Kolovou for a concert dedicated to great Italian classical composers including Rossini, Puccini and Verdi, among others. The concert at the Technopolis cultural complex in the downtown Gazi district starts at 8.30 p.m. and is free of charge.
