Ankara has expressed worry after the arrest of one of Tunisia's most important politicians, Rached Ghannouchi, and stressed the move won't contribute to the social peace in the North African country.

A Tunisian court has imposed a travel ban on the speaker of the country's now-dissolved parliament, a court spokeswoman said.

The interdiction against Rached Ghannouchi is part of an inquiry into alleged obstruction of justice in connection with the assassination in 2013 of two left-wing figures, the court spokesman said on Friday.

Turkey's president and his Algerian counterpart spoke on the phone on July 30, according to a statement by Turkey's Communications Directorate.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Algeria's Abdelmadjid Tebboune discussed regional matters, especially Turkish-Algerian relations and developments in Tunisia, said the directorate statement.

The Turkish foreign minister expressed on July 27 Turkey's support to the Tunisian people following Sunday's coup attempt.

Tunisia faced its biggest crisis in a decade of democracy on July 25 after President Kais Saied ousted the government and froze the activities of parliament, a move his foes labeled a coup that should be opposed on the street.

Tunisian President Kais Saied announced late on July 25 that he has fully assumed executive authority in addition to suspending parliament.
