Presidential election results in Bulgaria are unlikely renew talks on Belene nuclear power plant (NPP) and South Stream projects, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said earlier this week.

However while the prospects to revive them "are minimal", Peskov stressed that Russia had always backed expanding cooperation with Bulgaria and would continue to do so.

 "The group is backing me. I will not tender in my resignation," stated the chairwoman of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva to journalists, reported BGNES.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Bulgaria's President-elect Rumen Radev on his victory in the vote on Sunday.

"The head of the Russian state has marked a significant potential for further development of Russian-Bulgarian relations based on the centuries-long traditions of friendship, of cultural and spiritual proximity," the Kremlin's website quotes Putin as saying.

Both President Rosen Plevneliev and President-elect Rumen Radev will have a say in the next caretaker government Bulgaria will have, local media report.

Pro-Russian presidential candidates in Bulgaria and Moldova have been elected for the top posts in the two separate elections held on Nov. 13, results showed. 

Bulgaria "looks set to veer sharply back into Moscow's strategic orbit after Socialist candidate Rumen Radev won the presidency in a landslide on Sunday," Politico writes in a report on the country's presidential election.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson has said Moscow welcomes "some of the statements" of victors in both Bulgaria and Moldova's presidential elections whose second rounds were held Sunday.

Bulgaria's centre-right Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, submitted his resignation to parliament on Monday, after a left-wing opposition candidate defeated his nominee in the presidential election.

An emergency vote in parliament on his decision to step down is expected on Tuesday.
