"If the judiciary cannot fight against crime, corruption and bribery everything will be finished. We are now waiting for an effective and comprehensive investigation [into Peker's claims]," Muharrem Erkek, the vice chair of the Republican People's Party, CHP, said on Monday after his party filed a criminal complaint.

Turkish actor becomes goalkeeper in Netherlands

Famous Turkish actor Erkan Kolçak Köstengil has become a professional goalkeeper in the Netherlands after leaving Turkey as the well-known TV series, Çukur (The Hole), in which he acted, ended.

"It was my childhood dream to be a goalkeeper," Köstengil said.

Çukur, which first aired on Oct. 23, 2017, ended on June 7 after 131 episodes in four seasons.

In 2012, a car hit Gökhan Demir in Istanbul while he was trying to cross the street. Demir lost his life after staying in a coma for nine days.

Turkey supports formation of stable government in Iraq

Turkey voiced support April 22 for the formation of a stable government in Iraq as efforts toward that end continued in the capital Baghdad. 

"We support the formation of a stable government in our brotherly neighbor Iraq, particularly at a time when the whole world is facing dire difficulties," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hami Aksoy said in a statement.

Fethullah Gülen's brother detained in Turkey's İzmir

Police have detained the brother of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen in the western Turkish province of İzmir. 
Kutbettin Gülen was detained on Oct. 2 by İzmir's counter-terrorism police as a part of the investigation into the failed July 15 coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).
