Montenegro's ruler of three decades, Milo Djukanovic, is in a pickle. April 2 could become a historic day if he loses in the second round of the presidential elections and gets voted out of power.

The US Justice Department said that Richard Ayvazyan, his wife, Marietta Terabelian, and his sister-in-law, Tamara Dadyan, were in detention in Montenegro. The Montenegrin Interior Ministry didn't respond to BIRN's request for arrest details by time of publication.

The head of the Institute for Public Health, Igor Galic, on Wednesday said the epidemiological situation in Montenegro is complex, and the number of new infections could increase in the next weeks.

"A criminal complaint has been filed against Cabarkapa and the state prosecutor has stated that he offended Montenegro's reputation in a published post," the police directorate said.

Still awaiting the final results of the Sunday's presidential election, both the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists party, DPS, and the opposition are hurriedly turning attention to the local election in Podgorica, which could be the most important poll this year.

Two months before the presidential election in Montenegro, it is still unknown who the main candidates in the race will be.

The main parties are all pondering their options, waiting to see if Montenegro's veteran leader, Milo Djukanovic, returns once again to frontline politics.
